If you use something every day, it should be beautiful. And if you want to reach your fitness goals, you’re going to open your tracker every day.
Tracking works. Write down what you eat, watch your weight, adjust. The trouble is rarely the method. It is the app you have to open to do it.
A dozen taps, three to five times a day
Most fitness trackers take a dozen taps to log a meal. Search, scroll, pick the closest match, change the serving, change the unit, confirm. Then do it again at lunch, at dinner, and for the snack you almost didn’t log.
Many are riddled with ads. Others shout at you in aggressive type, with streaks and badges and red numbers when you go over. None of that helps you eat well. It makes the one tool you open most often the one you most want to close.
I wanted something different. Something simple, powerful, and beautiful. Something I didn’t dread opening, or get frustrated by, three to five times a day.
What simple means here
Simple means the fastest way to log is the obvious one. Take a photo of your plate, and the meal is in your log. Or say what you ate. Or scan the barcode. You can fix anything afterwards, but you shouldn’t have to babysit every entry.
Powerful means the app does the arithmetic you would otherwise do in a spreadsheet. Once a week, Fit Shapes compares what you logged with how your weight trended, and proposes new targets when your pace drifts. You decide whether to take them. I wrote more about that in How Adaptive Targets work.
Beautiful is harder to define, and I think it matters most. It means calm type, honest numbers, and nothing on the screen that doesn’t need to be there. It means the app treats you like an adult who is executing a plan, not someone who needs to be congratulated for opening it.
The tracker I wanted for myself
I’ve designed software for more than 15 years. Fit Shapes is the tracker I wanted for myself, and every detail in it is one I would notice if it were wrong.
It is also a tracker without ads, without third-party analytics, and without tracking. Your food log is yours. If you want to leave, you can export everything. If you want to come from another app, you can bring your history with you.
Who it’s for
Fit Shapes is for people who care how things look and feel, including the tools they use every day. If you lift, if you’re cutting or bulking or holding steady, and if you’ve ever closed a tracker because it felt like a chore, I built this for you.
Now I get to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it.
