Describe a meal
Type or say what you ate, then check the estimate before you add it.
- On Today, tap Search or add food in the dock.
- Tap the pencil button next to the search field (Describe food).
- Type what you ate, the amount, and any additions. For example, “two eggs scrambled in butter, one slice of sourdough”.
- Optional: tap Camera or Photo library to add up to three photos.
- Tap the arrow button (Estimate nutrition).
- Check the estimate. To change it, tap Edit inputs.
- Tap Add food.
Say it instead
Tap the microphone button and speak. Your words show as text while you talk. Tap Stop dictation when you finish, or tap × to cancel.
The microphone button shows only when your iPhone can recognize speech on the device. If microphone access is off, the app tells you, and you can keep typing or open Settings.
Fix the estimate
On the review, type what to change in the Fix with AI field, for example “the toast had no butter”. Then tap Request correction. Fit Shapes shows a Suggested correction. Tap Apply to use it, or Keep current to keep the first estimate.
What is sent
Your description, and your photos if you add them, are sent to estimate the nutrition. Speech becomes text on your iPhone. Microphone audio is not sent.
Enter the numbers yourself
If you know the nutrition, tap Enter manually. Type the calories, protein, carbs, and fat. The name is optional. Then tap Log food.
